Both ends protected, nothing to lose
The original Chroma Drive had one connector exposed while you used the other. The new version puts rotating metal covers on both USB-A and USB-C ends. They click open and shut like a Zippo and lock into place, so nothing rattles loose and there is no cap to drop in a dark booth. It ships with a protective case and a lanyard, and the built-in keyring loop means you can attach it to whatever you want.
Sync in seconds, not hours. Built for Rekordbox and Engine DJ exports
Have you ever waited an hour for 100 tracks to copy onto a USB from Rekordbox? Most drives are not built for it. The read and write speeds that actually matter for DJ transfers are rarely the ones on the box. Most USB memory is tuned for single big files, like one large video, not for the thousands of small files a DJ library is made of: metadata, cues, tracks, and analysis data, all checked and updated at once. The Chroma Drive uses memory chosen and formatted for exactly that job, so your library syncs in seconds.
Tested by DJs for thousands of hours
We have put these through 350 plus hour marathon sets, runs on every Pioneer DJ and Denon DJ all-in-one and media player we could get our hands on, heavy media recording, Stressdisk testing to confirm a long memory life, high-dust and high-heat conditions in the middle of the Black Rock Desert, and 500 plus plug and unplug cycles to wear on the connectors the way real touring does.
Dual USB-C and USB-A for the gear you own now and next
The Chroma Drive comes pre-formatted as FAT32, which gives you the widest compatibility across DJ gear, including units that are a few years old. USB-A plugs straight into standalone CDJs and players, USB-C handles your laptop and phone, and you are covered when the next generation of gear ships with USB-C. For best results, leave 10 to 15 percent of the drive free to avoid library issues.
Support-first warranty
Most DJ drives fail from corruption, not from physical damage. If anything goes wrong with your Chroma Drive, snap a photo or screenshot of the issue and message us. We will help you get it working again fast. The drive also carries a one year warranty against manufacturing defects. If it fails, send it back and we will get a replacement out to you right away.
Rekordbox Transfer Times (drives formatted to FAT32 for max compatibility)
lower values = faster transfers
Drives formatted FAT32 for max Pioneer DJ gear compatibility. Results averaged from two tests from freshly formatted drives on MacBook M2. All drives 128GB, USB 3.2 unless otherwise noted. Tested with Rekordbox 6.8.5 which requires both Device Library and Device Library Plus even if you hit "no". YMMV due to other variables, but this is a representative sample of what you can expect with Chroma Drives.
Our Labs + Real World Tests
In addition to real-world DJ testing with our beta testers using these drives in all types of situations, we also performed extreme endurance tests to make sure they are suited for professional DJs and hobbyists alike. Here’s a sample of the testing we’ve done:
- 350+ hour (two week) marathon DJ sets (loading and playing tracks on 3+ linked players without stopping)
- Using drives on all Pioneer DJ and Denon DJ all-in-ones and media players (CDJs) for max compatibility
- Heavy media recording (DJ sets, 4K ProRes video)
- Stressdisk testing (24+ hours of writing/reading/erasing the drives to detect failure in extreme conditions) to ensure the memory has a long use life
- High dust / high heat environments in the middle of the Black Rock Desert
- Heavy repetition of plugging/unplugging (500+ times) to simulate long-term wear on the connectors
FAQ
Does the Chroma Drive work with CDJs and Pioneer gear?
Yes. The USB-A end plugs straight into standalone CDJs and media players. It ships pre-formatted FAT32 for the widest compatibility, including older units.
Does it work with Rekordbox and Engine DJ?
Yes. The memory is chosen and formatted for syncing Rekordbox and Engine DJ libraries, which are thousands of small files rather than single large ones.
Does it work with Denon DJ players?
Yes. We tested on Denon DJ all-in-ones and media players alongside Pioneer DJ / AlphaTheta gear.
What format does it come in, FAT32 or exFAT?
It ships as FAT32, which works across the widest range of DJ gear including older players. FAT32 has a 4GB per-file limit, which is no issue for music tracks. This is a DJ USB drive, so we really recommend not reformatting it away from FAT32. Always leave 10 to 15 percent free either way to avoid library issues.
Is there a cap to lose?
No. Both connectors sit under rotating metal covers that lock shut, so there is nothing to remove and nothing to lose.
Can I use it with a laptop or phone?
Yes. The USB-C end handles your laptop and phone, the USB-A end handles CDJs and players (and of course newer DJ gear with USB-C can use that end, as well)
What capacities and colors are available?
Capacities are 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. Colors are Void Black, Cloud White, Luminous Blue, Energy Orange, and Pop Pink. Custom laser engraving is available.
What is the warranty?
One year against manufacturing defects, plus support-first warranty help for setup and corruption issues. Send us a photo or screenshot and we will get you sorted fast.
