I bought these about a month ago. What really made me interested into switching to in-ear-monitors was that I play in several bars that are notoriously loud--(Savoy was here last week and the guys couldn't believe how loud it was)-- I was worried about hearing loss. I used to use, and still own Pioneer HDJ-2000 over ear monitors and on loud nights, I'd wear Etymotic Ety plugs. The Westone UM2's block out roughly the same amount of ambient noise as the Etymotic plugs, but the sound is so much clearer. On my Rane Sixty-Eight, I usually would have the volume at 5(of 10) and with the UM2s, I rarely go above 2(of 10), it's crazy. I don't think I've worn my HDJ-2000s since I've got these, which is kind of sad because I have 2 pairs of HDJ-2000s. The UM2s are really comfortable, easy to use, and the sound is amazingly clear. Of course they don't have the bass that the HDJ-2000s do, but I can feel the bass from the club so that's not a big deal. One of my complaints with the UM2s, and this is just something inherent with in ear monitors, but they are kind of a pain to put on and take off--compared to over the ear headphones. Its something that gets easier with practice. Once they are on, you are fine. The only other thing is that the cord is a little short for my liking. Other than that I think these are probably one of the best DJing related purchases I have ever made.
