Compact Kontrol

The S5 is everything you need to DJ with in one all-in-one controller - just hook it up to a copy of Traktor Pro 2 and you've got control over complete FX, Stems, loop, samples, Freeze, mixing, and more.

High Res Screens

These are the same awesome screens that are on the Traktor Kontrol S8 - allowing you to easily view at a glance entire Stem Decks, two sets of playing decks, a awesomely detailed waveform, and a FX unit's current parameters.

Best Control Layout

The workflow layout of the S5 combines one of the best (Kontrol S4) with the advancements of the Kontrol S8 - adding in large RGB touchpads, two touch-sensitive loop encoders, and a touch-strip for jumping around in or nudging a track.

"Solid build. Very sleek design. Great screens that really allow you to move away from the laptop. Having the reduced workflow capabilities of the S8 takes some time to get around but I think the portability makes up for it. Nice to have the ability to route in aux sources if you need. Great piece of kit that boasts a lot of functionality!"

"Great gear for Traktor users. Build quality is solid, and the audio sounds great. Very nice output configuration with independently adjustable output levels for Booth and Main out. I'm running into some issues when I try to use it with non-Traktor audio sources. Basically it is geared for 'Internal' mixing as its main mode. There is an Aux input but it's really a fallback in case your laptop fails. You can't (currently) map a stereo input from the Aux in to deck C or D. This may be an issue with El Capitan; I'll update my review if this gets fixed. I'm trying to use it with Ableton, but it looks like I'll have to use an external sound card for that. I'm experimenting with Soundflower 2.x drivers https://support.shinywhitebox.com/hc/en-us/articles/206333005-Soundflower-and-El-Capitan but the Traktor hardware is odd when I try to use it with soundflower. I can route audio OUT ok, sending tracks to Ableton. But when I do this the headphone support gets a bit wonky for cueing. My goal is to route decks ABCD to ableton as inputs via soundflower. So far so good. But when I route the input back to the S5 I lose a lot of features -- CUE (audio cue to headphones) doesn't work as expected. The fader doesn't work as expected. I may be able to get past this by midi mapping controls from the S5 to Ableton, but it feels very hacky. So, my main gripe is limited external inputs to the S5 when using it as an 'internal' sound card. Hopefully this will be resolved soon. An alternative way of doing things may be to use an external sound card and route audio from the S5 and ableton to this external device. I'll probably be trying that next. All in all, I think there are some features in the S8 that I am probably missing in the S5. The external inputs especially, and the faders for individual stems decks. But hey, it's still a very cool piece of hardware, and the screens are mesmerizing. Worth checking out. Oh, and as shown on this site, using the MF Twister as an external drum machine works great when triggering the remix deck. Very cool."
